Who is this course for?

This short course is suitable for any registrant HCPC, GPhC & NMC including Ìýmidwives or Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPH).Ìý

Why study this course?

By the end of this short course, learners will be able to:Ìý

  • Analyse and review the main types of diabetes; their treatment and management, referring to national & international guidelines.Ìý
  • Critically appraise the evidence to support the strategies available to promote behavioural change, health promotion and self-care.ÌýÌý
  • Demonstrate an ability to synthesize and evaluate the evidence base to make sound judgements regarding treatment and patient management options.ÌýÌý
  • Critically examine and evaluate the role of the multidisciplinary team when managing diabetic patients.Ìý

This short course runs over 11 weeks, usually during semester 2 of the academic year.Ìý

Assessments on this short course will include: Ìý

  • Recorded Presentation (15 minutes, due on 4 July) relating to an aspect of diabetic care/management e.g. a pharmacological treatment, diet or utilising motivational interviewing etc.Ìý
  • Case study assignment (3,500 words, due 8 August) which provides evidence of learning against the learning outcomes. The assignment will include an anonymised case profile (400 words maximum) which will address the key features of the patient’s background, relevant family history and the nature of their illness. From the case profile, the student will select a particular problem for further discussion and critical analysis, with a relevant literature review.Ìý

  1. Click on ‘Non-graduating applications / Stand alone Modules’, then select ‘Non-graduating Undergraduate’.
  2. ÌýIn the next section, select Non-Graduating Taught Modules in Health (NGU/HS) Click Save and Continue.
  3. ÌýOn the next page, the default for the first question is Full Time. You need to change this to ‘Part time’:
  4. You now need to input the module code. Diabetes Nursing: the code is NHS:3149. This section must be completed for your application to be processed.
  5. You also need to state the start date. Please make your selection, then click ‘Save and Continue’.
  6. IMPORTANT: You do not need to write a personal statement to apply for this course. Instead, please upload the document including employment, experience and education information that you have created prior to starting the application that contains the name of your current employer, the number of years of experience you have, and your highest qualification to date. Click Save and continue.

You only need to enter the details of your highest qualification to date, e.g. if you have a postgraduate qualification, please only only include this.

You will be asked for evidence of the qualification. Please either upload a copy of your qualification if it's easily accessible, or upload the Word document again (that you prepared earlier).
