Course Content?
This short course provides an overview of criminology and the criminal justice system. It begins with an exploration of key criminological theories that explain the causes and patterns of criminal behaviour. Students will examine the sociological, psychological, and biological perspectives that contribute to our understanding of crime. The course also delves into the structure and function of the criminal justice system, including the police, courts and probation. 听Key topics include the historical development of criminal justice institutions, the role of policing in society and the challenges faced by prisons. Through case studies and current events, students will analyse the effectiveness of various criminal justice policies and practices. 听By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of the complexities of crime and the multifaceted efforts to address it, preparing them for advanced studies in criminology and criminal justice.
