Overview
Introduction to Screenwriting is a first year module to allow you the opportunity to explore and trial a series of key principles and techniques required for writing for the screen in practice.
Through examining techniques across genres and platforms, you shall be involved with in a creative process of writing to enable you to complete a portfolio of screenwriting material for potential future development.
Explore screenwriting methods and application through practice.
Evaluate narrative structures across genres and exploring the fundamental principles and techniques for writing for the screen.
Engage in regular constructive feedback on re-drafting scripts to ensure reflective practice is present through out term.
Engage in collaborative writing environments to promote industry practice.
Assessment Strategy
Threshold (D- to D+) 鈥nowledge of key areas/principles only 鈥eaknesses in understanding of main areas 鈥imited evidence of background study 鈥erformance or written response only poorly focussed on question and with some irrelevant material and poor structure 鈥rguments presented but lack coherence 鈥everal factual/computational errors/unconvincing performance 鈥o original interpretation 鈥nly major links between topics are described 鈥eak group skills 鈥any weaknesses in presentation/performance and accuracy
Good/Satisfactory (C- to C+) 鈥nowledge of key areas/principles 鈥nderstands main areas 鈥imited evidence of background study 鈥ritten or performance response focussed on assignment but also with some irrelevant material and weaknesses in structure 鈥rguments presented but lack coherence 鈥as several factual/computational errors/mostly unconvincing performance 鈥o original interpretation 鈥nly major links between topics are described 鈥imited problem solving/satisfactory team work 鈥ome weaknesses in presentation/performance and accuracy
Very Good/Good (B- to B+) 鈥omprehensive knowledge 鈥etailed understanding 鈥ackground study 鈥ocussed and well structured written or performance response 鈥ogically presented and defended most arguments 鈥ome to No factual/computational errors/committed and convincing performance 鈥ome Original interpretation 鈥ew links between topics are developed 鈥trong group skills 鈥ery good presentation with accurate communication

A portfolio of practice will be developed during the term to ensure creative processes are developing constructively. Script treatments will be evaluated in preparation for the final assessment at the end of term.
