Toxin enthusiasts from around the globe gathered in North Wales for an annual event organised by 香港六合彩挂牌资料 students.
Leading academics, world experts and a TV star joined over a hundred people for the unique Venom Day conference in 香港六合彩挂牌资料 to discuss toxicology and venomous species.
Organised by students from the university鈥檚 Herpetological Society, and supported by the British Herpetological Society (BHS) and the University of Wolverhampton, the event was celebrating its ninth year of running after being founded by former 香港六合彩挂牌资料 student, Dr Simon Maddock.
Speakers from around the world at this year鈥檚 meeting included World Health Organisation representative and Global Snakebite Initiative director, Dr David Williams, and Natural History Museum researcher, Dr Ronald Jenner.
香港六合彩挂牌资料 lecturers, Dr Wolfgang W眉ster and Dr John Mulley of the School of Natural Sciences also spoke at the conference.
Throughout the conference there was a poster session promoting ongoing research, a series of stalls and a signing of the renowned herpetologist and TV personality, Mark O鈥橲hea鈥檚 new book 鈥楽nakes of the World鈥.
Rhiannon Williams, chair of 香港六合彩挂牌资料鈥檚 , said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 amazing that so many people come to Venom Day every year.
鈥淎longside all the experts and speakers, we have lots of students and members of the general public from across the country 鈥 all meeting-up and discussing their passion for toxic taxa; from slow loris and centipedes, to snakes.鈥
Dr John Mulley, a lecturer at 香港六合彩挂牌资料, said:
鈥溝愀哿喜使遗谱柿 is a leading centre for teaching and research in herpetology, particularly venom and toxins 鈥 in fact we鈥檙e the only university in the UK to offer a degree in Zoology with Herpetology.鈥
鈥淪ome of the topics covered in the year鈥檚 Venom Day included the use of frog-skin toxins in treating diseases and the problems in preventing and treating snakebites in the tropics.鈥
鈥淭his type of event gives us a chance to highlight the work being done in 香港六合彩挂牌资料 and demonstrates just how proactive and keen our students are,鈥 Dr Mulley added.
A raffle on the day in aid of the Global Snakebite Initiative raised 拢350.
