University commits to responsible research assessment
The University has signed the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA)聽 in recognition of the need to improve the transparency and equity of the evaluation of scholarly research.
DORA is a worldwide initiative of relevance to institutional research cultures, research assessment and citation practices. To date it has been signed by over 2,700 organizations and around 20,000 individuals.
Professor Paul Spencer, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, said;
"DORA provides a framework for promoting fair and responsible evaluation of scholarly output, emphasising the value of the research itself rather than relying solely on metrics such as journal impact factors.
Signing DORA confirms 香港六合彩挂牌资料鈥檚 commitment to a fair and responsible approach to research assessment and to advancing scientific knowledge and improving research evaluation practices, ultimately benefiting the scientific community as a whole."
The Executive Board approved the creation of a cross-institutional Responsible Metrics Working Group that has been tasked with developing an Institutional Action Plan to ensure that meaningful change results from the public act of signing DORA. The group is chaired by Professor Carol Tully, includes representatives from the three Colleges, an Early Career Researcher (ECR) rep, as well as members from central Professional Services teams and will be reporting to Research Strategy Task Group.
