How has your career developed since graduating from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ, and what is your current job role?
My current job role is a trainee accountant and tax adviser at a chartered tax advisers and chartered accounting firm. I have completed the exams for my association of taxation technicians qualification and I am now starting to work towards my ACCA qualification. The route I have chosen will take a minimum of three years to complete but this will allow to become an accomplished adviser in a respected profession.
Why did you choose to study at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School?
I choose to study at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School because the post-graduate Business and Marketing programme meant that I would graduate with a dual award of a Master of Arts and a Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership. This stood me in good stead to be able to progress in my career with good theoretical underpinning to support my professional studies and commercial experience.
How has your degree and experiences at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School influenced your career/life?
As I studied a broad range of modules such as management, marketing and human resources my Master’s degree allowed me the flexibility of various career routes into business as it gave me insights into the broad spectrum of business operations and environment. This was important to me before starting the course as I did not want to feel constrained to one area of business.
What advice would you give to students studying in the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School?
My advice to a student at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School would be to always make notes of lecturers, revision tips, and revision-specific lectures as they are the most valuable sessions of each module. The lecturers giving those revision sessions are often the ones that wrote the exam paper and coursework assignments and therefore have a better idea of what to expect in upcoming assessments.
What was the best thing about studying at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School?
The best thing about studying at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School is the lecturers’ open office hours as it ensures that lecturers are available to answer questions in private and explain challenging topics outside the lecture theatre which makes studying a lot less stressful.
In what ways did studying in the Business School enhance your employability?
As a course representative at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School, I was able to gain experiences organising events such as a guest lecture and book sale, attend staff/student committee meetings and collect feedback to report to the University. All of these experiences were very valuable in increasing my employability as I had evidence to support skills such as event organisation, teamworking and professional communication.
