How has your career developed since graduating from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ, and what is your current job role?
Since graduating with my degree in Social Policy & Economics at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ, I received a scholarship at the University of Exeter to pursue my MSc in Economics, and which then led into my career in data analytics. As a data analyst I have worked for the Office for Students, a regulator of higher education where I was able to drive UK policy decisions through data. I’m currently at Natwest Group in retail analytics, where I’m sure new experiences await me!
Why did you choose to study at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School?
I chose to complete a joint honours degree in Social Policy & Economics and believe it gave me a solid foundation in my areas of interest, allowing me to build on my knowledge of economic theory and apply it to the real world. I also loved the location, being in a student-centric city while being so close to nature and beautiful surrounding landscape.
How has your degree and experiences at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School influenced your career/life?
My time at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ has allowed me to excel in my current career path – the course content was well-delivered and had a practical component, with modules such as Applied Economics and Econometrics building a solid foundation for statistics and linking straight into a career in data analytics. I had an amazing journey at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ - studying, joining clubs and societies, and making friends from all over the world.
What advice would you give to students studying in the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School?
I would say take advantage of every opportunity that comes at you and make every moment count! There’s always loads to do and plenty of things to get involved in at every corner, and you never know when these experiences will come in handy!
What was the best thing about studying at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ Business School?
The best thing about studying at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ was the school/life balance. Sure, there’s studying, but it’s also important to be a well-rounded person and understand how the things you study relate to the real world and to real people, and that perspective is really what helps you discover who you are and what career path you may want to pursue.
In what ways did studying in the Business School enhance your employability?
The course itself was great and delivered by knowledgeable and caring lecturers, and the modules were set up in a way where the things you learnt were applicable to the real world. I think content plus applicability really helped bring the course to life and opened doors for me to pursue a job in the field and industry that I am interested in. During my time studying I also had opportunities to pursue multiple part time roles and enterprise experiences which helped with gaining experience before starting my first job as a graduate. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ also placed a lot of emphasis on equipping its students with skills to succeed in applying for jobs which really helped get your foot in the door.
