Jack Barry

Jack graduated in 2015 having studied LLB Law at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ. Since then Jack has had a very successful career completing his pupillage in 2020 with Reeds Solicitors and being called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2021 before joining the Queen Square Chambers in 2022.

Tell us a bit about your experience at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ….

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ. I met lifelong friends and enjoyed the overall student experience. The law school has excellent teaching staff and likes to go the extra mile.

Why did you choose to study at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ?

I visited and fell in love with the surrounding landscape. Snowdon is visible on a clear day and the Menai Straits are just on your doorstep. The university is steeped in heritage and feels friendly too.

How has your career developed since graduating from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ, and what is your current job role? 

I am a barrister with Queen Square Chambers in Bristol. I graduated from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ in 2015, thereafter worked as a paralegal for a few different law firms in and around Bristol - getting a taste of different areas of law. I then began my Bar course with UWE in 2018 on a part-time basis whilst working full-time as a paralegal. In 2019 I was the fortunate recipient of an exhibition and major scholarship awarded by The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and I gained pupillage in 2020 with Reeds Solicitors being called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2021.

I successfully completed pupillage with Reeds Solicitors and joined Queen Square Chambers in May 2022.

In what way did studying at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ enhance your employability?

During the second year of my degree I was able to apply for and complete mini-pupillage's around England and Wales, this teamed with my degree contributed to me gaining employment straight after university.

What advice would you give to students thinking about studying at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ?

Do it. You will enjoy your time at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ and it will give you not only a solid foundation for future employment, but you'll have fun in the best surroundings of any UK university.

In one sentence, what was your favourite thing about studying at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ?

The combination of good teaching, a university with genuine heritage, meeting lifelong friends and all of it wrapped up in great surroundings.
