How did your application stand out?

I think a unique aspect of my application was my track record. Participating in university activities and academic conferences is a huge commitment, but they give you valuable connections and experience that makes or breaks a CV. I have the advantage of years on my side, being 30 years old when I applied, but I would advise younger students to get involved in something they're passionate in. For me, that's Medieval Studies and the Centre for Arthurian Studies, a crucial and historic centre of learning.

What difference has the Vice Chancellor Scholarship made to you?

It made all the difference. Since I started my studies in 2009 at Eastern Oregon University, I have depended on federal financing, scholarships, grants, loans, and part-time employment to fund my academic dreams. With the Vice Chancellor's Scholarship, I can continue to expand my expertise and build a career in my field.

Your tips for a good scholarship application?

Be honest. There is value in your experiences, and that value makes you and your application unique and relatable. Find those vulnerable parts of you and share them, because there are people behind the application process willing and wanting to lend a helping hand.

What’s been the best part about your Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ studies so far?

The best part of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ is the Centre of Arthurian Studies, the Arthurian Studies MA, and Professor Raluca Radulescu. I prepared my application for the Arthurian Studies MA for two years and left my life behind in the United States to study in this program, and it was the best decision I've ever made. I've met such wonderful people, in the program, at the university, at academic conferences, and I've learned so much from them. There's something wonderful about studying the Arthurian legends, and it connects us to every person in history that's felt that same wonderful connection to King Arthur, his knights of the Round Table, and the incredible story that's been told over and over, retold and recreated in every generation. From the oldest oral tale to the newest movie adaptation, King Arthur sits in our conscious, in our morals, and in the lessons we've learned. And there's something wonderful about studying that phenomenon at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ, which has such a rich history of Arthurian studies.

Why apply?

Scholarships can be a frustrating, monotonous, and nerve-wracking process, but my Grandma always said you never know if you don't try.
