Helen Jane Edwards is a Lecturer in Primary Education, specialising in Welsh Second Language at the School of Education and Human Development.Â
She is also the Admissions Officer for BA(Hons) Primary Education with QTS.
She obtained her Bachelor Degree in Welsh & Education at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ and then completed a PGCE course at the Normal College, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ.Â
She started her teaching career at St.Gerard’s School Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ, where she taught both in the primary and secondary sector. Here she was solely responsible for teaching Welsh Second Language in both the Primary and Secondary school, from the Foundation Phase up to KS5.Â
After 7 years, she moved on to teach at Ysgol John Bright Llandudno, where she was also a Deputy Head of Pastoral Care for Year 8.Â
Following promotion as second in charge of the Welsh and Modern Foreign Languages Faculty, she moved to Ysgol Bryn Elian, Old Colwyn where she taught Welsh as a Second Language for over 12 years. She also acted as HOF twice.Â
During her teaching career, she has held the position of mentor, Cwriwclwm Cymreig Co-ordinator, Bilingualism Co-ordinator, Chairperson of KS2/KS3 Moderation Cluster Committee and KS2/KS3 Transition Co-ordinator for Welsh Second Language.Â
In September 2014, she joined the School of Education and Human Development as a Lecturer in Primary Education, specialising in Welsh Second Language. In June 2015 she was appointed Deputy Admissions Officer for the BA(QTS), BA(SAC), PGCE & TAR courses and then in June 2016, she took over the role of Admissions Officer for the BA(QTS) & BA(SAC) courses.Â
She has recently created booklets and guidelines to promote Bilingualism across the School of Education and Human Development and to assist staff with using ‘Cymraeg Bob Dydd’ (Incidental Welsh) in their lectures and when e-mailing and conversing with trainees.Â
She also advises Welsh Language Co-Ordinators in Partnership schools on how to promote the use of Everyday & Incidental Welsh.
She sits on the Cynllun Colegau Cymru committee.
