Teaching staff include both highly regarded academics and acclaimed creative practitioners, with strong regional, national and international links in the private and public sector. Academic staff specialise in diverse research areas such as vertical dance, technology and discourse, Jewish film, digital advertising, journalism, politics and risk, digital fiction, videogames and virtual worlds, live television, documentary film making, adaptation studies and comics.
Staff expertise is matched by our state-of-the-art purpose-built facilities. As well as broadcast quality TV and radio equipment, there are dedicated spaces for those studying games, digital media, journalism and writing, and a theatre and digital cinema. Â Â Â
We enjoy strong links with local companies, including BBC Wales, National Library of Wales, S4C, Cwmni Da, Dafydd Hardy Estate Agents, Menter Môn, Galeri Caernarfon and GeoMôn, and offer a range of invited industry talks and workshops for you to attend and forge links with potential future employers in the Media and Creative Industries.

Osian Williams graduated with a 1st Class Honours degree in Communications and Media and an MA Distinction in Filmmaking. Whilst he was a student Osian won a BAFTA Cymru award for a short film he produced, 'Can i Emrys.' He also founded a media production company, SSP Media which is now based in Cardiff.

Studying media subjects at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ can be your launchpad to a great career. We have excellent links with the advertising industry, marketing agencies, technology companies, regulators, policy makers, theatre companies, newspapers and the television industry.
Our graduates have gone on to work in a range of roles, including: creative writing; professional writing and publishing; performance and the theatre (both on and behind the stage); print and/or broadcast journalism; as actors, presenters and in television programme production; advertising and marketing; radio (as presenters as well as in programme production); digital, web and new media production; multi-media industries; teaching; lecturing; and public relations.
Our Research in Film, Media and Journalism
We are inter-disciplinary, collaborative, creative and critical. In the most recent national assessment of research quality (REF 2014), all of the School’s research impact was of either world-leadingÌý´Ç°ùÌýinternationally excellent in quality.
Our key strengths are the work of our staff in digital culture,Ìýmedia and persuasive communicationÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýcreative theory and practiceÌý(±è°ù²¹³¦³Ù¾±³¦±ð-²¹²õ-°ù±ð²õ±ð²¹°ù³¦³ó).
We have particularly strong relationships within the media and creative industries sector in Wales, and also engage with the creative economy more generally, within the UK and beyond. This informs several aspects of our research activities, as well as helping to promote our work. At a community level, we regularly participate in projects and developments that not only give valuable opportunities to our students, but also help in terms of overall impact and awareness of our activities. The companies and organisations with whom we have collaborated recently include BAFTA Cymru, independent TV company Cwmni Da, NoFit State Circus and Carers Outreach.
We have a thriving and friendly research culture. Our weekly research series features Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ colleagues, postgraduate students, and researchers and practitioners from across the UK and beyond in a supportive, if critical, environment. We also invite special guests, visiting scholars, and others to present on their research and practice.
