Supporting Student Carers
At Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ, we place a high priority on caring for and supporting all our students.
The University is aware that caring may have financial implications with students experiencing higher travel costs and or find themselves less able to work part-time to supplement their student finance awards.Â
To help easy some of these financial worries Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ offers full-time student carers with an annual Carers Bursary of up to £1,000 from the University’s Hardship Fund.
A Carer is Someone who looks after a member of the family, partner or friend with a physical or sensory disability, learning disability, medical condition, mental health issues or someone addicted to drugs, alcohol or gambling. (Please note that these duties would be in addition to the usual caring responsibilities that a parent would have for a dependent child.)
To apply for the Carers Bursary, you can send us your evidence of your unpaid caring responsibilities after you have registered for the academic year 2024-25, either by email: moneysupport@bangor.ac.uk or you can call in to the Money Support Unit. We are located in Neuadd Rathbone.
Evidence required is a letter from a professional person*, who is aware of the family’s situation and your caring responsibility. Once we have received your evidence, we will determine your eligibility and send you a form to complete for payment.
*Doctor, Nurse, Teacher, Tutor, Social Worker, other healthcare professional, Police Officer etc.
If you were previously in receipt of Carer’s Allowance, please do send us proof from the Department of Work & Pensions that this has now ceased.
If you are a carer who are paid a salary for your caring duties or are in receipt of Carer’s Allowance we regret that you are not eligible for this bursary.
Carers Handbook
Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ produces a handbook for our current and prospective students detailing the support available as well as telephone numbers and contact details that may be of help in any emergency.
