Peer Guide News
Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ’s turning yellow!
Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ×ÊÁÏ is going to be very colourful over the welcome period with over 500 Peer Guides in their colourful yellow shirts waiting to greet everyone.
Over the Arrival Weekend they will be visiting the Halls sites. They will introduce themselves, invite you to the social gatherings and make sure you know what’s what. There will be a Peer Guide Room at the Ffriddoedd village so if you have any queries about Peer Guiding events drop in – you’ll find us in the Braint Common Room. At St Mary’s village you’ll find us in Acapela.
During Welcome Week the Peer Guides will be on hand in your Academic Schools to help you get sorted and familiarise yourself with everything from choosing modules to finding the lecture rooms. There will also be more social events as well.
If you need a little help with information or directions don’t hesitate to ask a Peer Guide.
Catherine is Peer Guide of the Year
Every year we ask our new students to nominate a Peer Guide whom they consider has gone that extra mile in helping them settle in – we then award Peer Guide of the Year to the best one. This year it was won by Catherine Suddaby from the School of Social Sciences.
Peer Guides do a good job
In our most recent evaluations first years gave lots of praise for the Peer Guides:
- 84% thought the help they received was useful
- 53% had been encouraged to speak to staff to solve their settling in problems
- 50% of open comments praised the Peer Guides for being friendly and helpful
Well done to all the Peer Guides who were out there making sure those new students settled in well.
